Finding Gratitude in Every Day Moments

How can you find more frequent moments of gratitude & Love in your daily life and how can it be beneficial to you?

Like most people, do you find yourself being taken out of the moment most of your day obsessing about the past mistakes or traumas?

Do you find yourself worrying about the future and what it might bring? 

We all have moments of Love & Gratitude every day – very short lived, however, compared to the optimal amount we could experience probably. One of the greatest teaching from spiritual leaders is to be present in the moment and find gratitude in the moment of where you are. Yes, one might say that they are going through a really bad time and they are sick or have no money or some other really bad circumstance is happening in their life right now. However, in my experience, even when things seem like they are dismal, there is always something, even if it begins as something that seems small, to find gratitude and appreciation for.

There is always something that you can be thankful for. You may be suffering a serious health crisis, or dire money problems or a relationship issue or losing your home, or whatever. I have been there – yes, with all of them. And, I can say that somehow, I don’t know how, looking back, something inside of me, found ways of having some kind of gratitude, even if I had to make myself look for it in the moment. For example, many years ago, we lost our family home due to financial issues when the market crashed. At first, I was not ready to lose our family home, I was persistent with my husband, and felt attached to our home and our neighborhood and schools for our children. I was in turmoil over this impending loss. And, at some point, something came over me, and I felt a release of resistance and somehow saw the bigger picture. I realized that as long as we were all safe, healthy, and together, it did not matter where we lived. I felt safe with my husband and knowing that we were together and we could do anything if we were together – somehow, it would all be fine. We ended up moving to a small town, where we had no friends, no job, had to start fresh with everything and move our children from all that they knew. In retrospect it was one of the best things that has ever happened to us! Our family is so much happier in this beautiful place – the energy is much calmer and just feels so different. When we visit our old neighborhood and town, we can feel an instant change in the energy and we just can’t wait to get back home – we enjoy our loved ones while we are with the, however, we know where our home is in our hearts.

I find this more and more in my life as I learn, grow and heal. When you are in the moment of now and finding ways to feel gratitude for something in your life, you are not thinking about what happened to you yesterday or last year or even something that happened to you when you were young that caused you pain.

When you are worrying about what tomorrow might bring, you are not in the present moment where you could be enjoying what is going on around you right now. Quantum Physics proves more and more that there are an infinite number of possibilities of what could happen, and also proving that what you think and feel is ultimately the essence of what you bring to your life. When you collapse the wave of possibility by expecting something horrible or expecting the worst of a pending situation, then you are actually creating that very possibility in your life to occur.

Imagine for a moment, that everything you think actually comes to life. Well, in a sense it actually does. YOU are that powerful – your thoughts are that creative. You receive what level your energy & vibration emits out into the Universe & expectation of the world around you is. If you are in a constant state of fear and apprehension, than you can only experience fearful situations arising in your life at every turn.

If you are choosing to feel Love and gratitude in the moment for something, anything, than you are sending out the energy of gratitude into the world, and the Universe can only deliver more to feel grateful for in your experience. According to Quantum Physics this is absolutely true.

How can you change your destiny and future?

Be in the moment of now. Be in a place of gratitude for all that is going on around you. I have definitely been guilty of the opposite of this the majority of my life. As we grow up, we are taught to focus on what we have already experienced as if that is the dictator of our future. Ex: “Don’t do that, you remember what happened last time you did that!” How can that be helpful to anyone?

Find ways to feel gratitude for what you are experiencing right now. Can you find ways to feel gratitude in a job you wish you didn’t have to go to each day? Can you find a way to focus with gratitude for the money & benefits it provides for you and your family to live? Can you feel thankful for the experience it is giving you toward a different job that suits you better and where you feel more joy?

Do you have a chronic illness in which you focus on daily that is painful physically & emotionally draining? Can you find ways to feel gratitude for the people that are around you that spend their time helping take care of you daily – whether they are paid to do so or not? Maybe you have a four legged companion that brings you comfort – are there ways you can honor them more with your Love, affection and time, that expresses your gratitude for them in your life? Can you find gratitude in some other part of your body such as your eyes that see for you to experience all the beauty that surrounds you, or your ears that hear such beautiful music and birds chirping outside your window? Can you find Joy in watching a bird play in a puddle from the rain? Can you find Joy in the beautiful sunset at the end of each day? Can you find Joy in the fact that you can taste amazing flavors while you eat instead of everything tasting the same? Maybe you may feel gratitude at the thought that you have a warm bed to sleep in next to the Love of your life, instead of sleeping on a park bench in the rain.

Here’s another example from my own life that comes to mind…

Quite a few years ago, me (and my family) somehow ended up with Whooping Cough – I didn’t know how severe this was. It was very severe and I was not sure how it would all play out. Funny thing happened while we were all home bed-ridden. We could barely breathe & our lungs were full, and had no energy even to get out of bed, it was a difficult & exhausting task just to walk a few feet to the bathroom or even talk. I won’t go into the severity of it all. However, just before getting sick, I had placed an order for a book by Rhonda Byrne, entitled The Power. We were fortunate to be sharing a home with my parents at the time – and luckily such a blessing for all, they never caught the Whooping Cough from us. So, one day while laying in bed, one of my parents brought in my mail, and in it was the book. Instantly, I began to cry with gratitude as I was so happy to receive this book – I had been so sick that I forgot it was on it’s way. I realized what a blessing it was in that moment – especially in that moment! I was really looking forward to the positive words I was expecting to read! During that time, I am still not sure how, my children would somehow make it from their room to ours, and we would play music that we loved. And, again, we could barely breathe without severe coughing which would tire us out quickly, we would be silly and try to sing along with the music – we were listening to Andrea Bocelli’s beautiful music, and just being silly, pretending we knew the words and trying to reach the high notes in between coughing, as if we were in concert – choking and gasping along the way, and laughing at each other and ourselves. We could hardly breathe, but, we were joyful in the time together and finding comfort with each other. I feel it helped us get through something that I really didn’t know if we were actually going to get through in all honesty. But, somehow, we had moments of gratitude, Love and Joy in the midst. Even now, as I sit here and write about this experience, it brings tears of gratitude to my eyes, as I can feel that experience as if it were yesterday, and I am so grateful to be alive today with my family in tact.

What if you went into every situation as if it were a fresh new experience like a child?

What if you were to go through your day with awe and wonder and questioned what the possibilities of what could happen? According to Quantum Physics there are literally an infinite number of possibilities that could happen in any one situation! And, according to Quantum Physics, it is also up to you how that plays out! Positively or negatively.

The Universe (God, Higher Self, Om, Mother Earth or whatever you choose to call it) is ready and waiting to give you what you want. However, as humans we just stand in our own way almost all of the time thus avoiding that which we really want. The Universe sees things from a much broader perspective and can see all the workings and all the people and all the circumstances that must come into play in order for us to get what we choose to have. And, at this point in my experience, I would rather have someone on my side, that sees ALL and can point me in the right direction.

As humans we tend to spend most of our time being in another time and place other than the here and now. When you are in the here and now, you get to experience life – you get to experience those around you with a newfound Joy and appreciation. Most of the time, we are thinking about a past experience or trauma, and reliving it over and over again in our minds. And, according to Quantum Physics, our body’s don’t know the difference between fantasy and reality. Our body’s fire and wire the same from a fantasy as if it were actually happening to us right now in the moment. No wonder so many people are in a state of dis-ease and illness. If you are constantly living in a past moment of terror, trauma, anger, rage, jealousy, etc., your body’s cells are actually in that energy and vibration of terror, trauma anger, rage, etc., and therefore can not find healing space. You have to lift yourself to the vibration and energy of Love, Joy, Peace, Gratitude, Appreciation, etc., in order for your cells to be in that energy & vibration so they can heal. This is where miracle healing takes place or any healing.

Why would you want to be in any other state than Love & Gratitude then? 

In some cases, being in a state of chronic illness or dis-ease emotionally or physically is actually serving us in some way – but that is for another post.

I will leave you with one more fun experience that I have had recently & continue to have using this method (looking for ways to find gratitude & Joy in everyday moments in my life)…

I love my little dog, she is my baby – I was there when she was born and had to have her, and she is one of my most precious Joys in life!

I was washing the dishes recently, and she came over to me, and stretched up on my leg for attention – not something she does frequently , not until now, you’ll see why in a moment, haha! Normally, I just say something to her to acknowledge her there, as to not turn off the water, and take off my dish-washing gloves and the whole bit just to put them back on. This time, something told me to stop what I was doing, and feel the appreciation that I really feel for her in the moment, and give her that Love and attention that she was looking for. I stopped, and kept talking to her so she would realize more was coming and she did not have to leave. I turned off the water, pulled off my gloves, and bent down and began rubbing her tummy while she was stretched out reaching up to me and just Loved her and petted her, and rubbed her and talked to her and told her how much I Love her and appreciate her being with me and our family and choosing us. I really felt the Love and gratitude well up inside of me and just enjoyed the moment we were sharing without anything else getting in the way, no past, no future – just us, in the moment together, sharing Love.

Now, the funny part, she does this almost every time I am washing dishes now. And, I know, when that happens, not only is it a reminder to me, to stop and be in the moment more often, with everyone in my life – but, it reminds me of my Love and Appreciation for her in my life right now, and she feels that Love & Appreciation emitting from me and that is the beautiful part! She feels Loved! And, who doesn’t like the feeling of being Loved and giving Love? It is contagious and Life Transforming!

Is It Possible to Lift Depression by Changing Your Diet?

 

Do you suffer from depression and mood swings that seem to have no rational reason?

Have you tried everything to find relief from your depression and irrational moods and don’t know what else to try?

I have posted about this topic before, and I will continue to in the future as it is something that is so beneficial to so many, and so close to my heart.

For most of my life, I have suffered from severe mood swings that I thought was just hormonal, along with severe bouts of depression and I had no idea that it could be related to the foods I consumed on a regular (almost daily) basis. When I was young, my nick name was Pouty (which I hated). I have felt that I had no control over my emotions, and that even though I wanted to be happy and feel good, it just seemed like I could not consistently feel upbeat.

Over recent years, I have found out that the foods you eat and other things you use, can contribute powerfully to how you feel emotionally, not just physically.

What if you found out that by completely eliminating certain foods that you eat, you may be able to relieve depression, sadness, outbursts of anger and severe mood swings that seem to arise out of nowhere and appear in an instant? 

That is what I have found through working with a Quantum Techniques practitioner, Dr. Stephen Daniel.

Imagine for a moment a daily cycle that never seems to end…

Depression, sadness, mood swings, quick temper including rage, weight gain that you can’t seem to lose, bouts of crying, self loathing, etc… You wake up each morning to take your normal shower and you use organic “healthy” hair products & natural makeup & other self care products (if your a woman). Most days when you wake up you may indulge in a typical American diet, which may consist of  eggs & toast (maybe even sprouted wheat bread, yum!) or a bagel on the way to work, you pack a sandwich or wrap for lunch (you think your being healthy with that wrap and it’s made of whole wheat!). Then for dinner, you have soup & salad – with croutons of course, or pasta with grilled chicken & veggies, then for dessert while watching your evening shows, you might have a couple cookies or even some ice cream with a warm brownie – hello!).

And, because you suffer such deep depression, you seek help and you are possibly prescribed medication that is meant to manage your symptoms (which in many cases can also comes with it’s own slue of side effects).

What you don’t know is that your body’s energy system thinks wheat is a poison and reacts to wheat by suffering depression, sadness, mood swings and the other symptoms above and possible other internal issues you are not aware of, including but not limited to inflammation, allergies, skin issues, pain, weight gain that you just can’t lose no matter what you do, digestive distress or other digestive issues, feeling bloating & full after certain food, constipation, and a general decline in health possibly, as your body is not able to recover from daily toxin loads and environmental issues as easily since your body is trying to detoxify naturally from the toxic load every day, all day. Not only does your emotional health suffer, so does your physical health.

For me, just one bite of wheat, caused these side effects to last for days – well, no wonder, as I think I ate some form of wheat or sprouted wheat regularly, if not daily – daily consumption of wheat, every few hours and during a typical day, maybe an entire bagel, the bread or wrap for lunch, the bread at dinner and the flour in the soup as a thickener or stabilizer, and then the croutons and then the ice cream and brownie filled with flour (which is bleached wheat) – oh and the organic hair conditioner that included wheat germ oil for soft shiny frizz free healthy hair, every single day and you imagine the cycle of depression and other miserable symptoms never ending. I never gave my body a rest from the wheat – I consumed it every 2-3 hours during the day. Of course, I had no idea I was self sabotaging my entire life. I had no idea why I suffered severe depression. I had no idea why no matter how much I exercised or how much or how little I ate, I could not lose an ounce. Yes, I had suffered some traumatic events, however, I did not think they could be the complete cause of the severe daily depression that seemed to follow me for a good part of my life.

It does not have to be wheat, it could be corn, or cashews (which seem to cause similar symptoms as wheat for me – and I love cashews – but, now I avoid them) or any other item that you put into your body or even something that you use on your body or come into contact with, especially regularly.

With Quantum Techniques, at the onset of your first session,  your diet and personal care items are tested remotely with an advanced form of muscle testing against the issue you are seeking help for whether it is emotional or physical. This means, it is tested to see if it is contributing toward preventing your healing – if your body’s energy system considers it a toxin or “poison”. This is very specific to each person individually.

I will admit, I stuck to the diet for many months at first, and then, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to just add a few bites here and there back into my diet – a muffin here, a crab cake there, a bite of a brownie (or the whole thing), a piece of homemade cake! Boy was I way off base! As soon as I began consuming wheat again, the severe depression, mood swings, crying and fits of rage immediately followed. Within minutes of eating wheat, symptoms would return – yes minutes.

I finally GOT IT! In order for me to avoid suffering daily severe depression and the other symptoms, I had to 100% COMPLETELY give up ALL wheat based products – COMPLETELY! (and cashews come to find out, too). I also have to be careful to make sure that I don’t breathe them, use them it on my body, etc.

For some people the toxin effect of items is not even remotely as severe and can even be unnoticeable. However, if you suffer from unexplained depression, bouts of rage, sadness, crying or other symptoms, consider it could be something you consume or that you come into contact with and it just may be a simple fix – just possibly – not in every case. (There are many other explanations for depression – please do not just stop the care of the professional you are under).

Along with removing known toxins from my daily routine, I also continuously work toward emotional healing from the past and as issues arise. Working to clean up the non-physical aspects of trauma and other negative energies that have accumulated is extremely important in any healing journey including your physical well being & health.

Healthy Benefits of Sea Sponge as Menstrual Tampon

Do you suffer from painful heavy periods?

Would you prefer a safer, more healthy alternative to chemical laden tampons and pads?

Until a few years ago, I had never even heard of using sea sponges as a replacement for menstrual tampons. And, at first, I was a little apprehensive at the thought. Especially, the thought of reusing them for 3-6 months (or longer) before disposing of them.

However, through my extensive research, I found there are many benefits to replacing standard tampons with sea sponge tampons, especially non-organic tampons that you can buy at any grocery store, corner store or convenience store.

Below are 2 photos of different varieties. The one on the left is more airy and soft and feels like almost nothing especially when it is wet – when you wet it, you can squish it down in your hand to almost nothing. I would recommend using this for very light days.

The one on the right is more dense and stiff. When you wet it, you can squeeze out the excess water, but, it does not squish down nearly as much as the one on the left. Once you insert them, you really don’t feel them at all – very different from regular tampons. I would recommend this one for the heavier days.

Here are a few benefits to switching to sea sponge menstrual tampons:

  • Save the earth (standard tampons are made of paper & plastic)
  • Lighter periods (many women report lighter periods after a few cycles when using sea sponge tampons)
  • Less cramping (many women report much less cramping and discomfort during their period when using sea sponge tampons)
  • Healthier vagina (no bleach or chemicals being inserted into your yoni each month days at a time) All sponges from the sea are rich in sea minerals that your body loves, including sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, and so much more!
  • Cleaner sex during period – unnoticeable by both partners since it is soft – insert sea sponge tampon during your period before participating in sexual intercourse and remove to clean shortly after sexual intercourse.
  • Birth control sponge with spermicide (for centuries women have been using sea sponges and other similar items safely along with spermicide methods for birth control. If you are looking for a more natural safe alternative to dangerous chemical laden birth control gels, you might want to try Contragel Green Contraceptive Gel – which can also be used with cervical caps and diaphrams. Some women use a recipe of lemon juice and aloe vera as a natural spermicide – you may find information about this in your own research and you are fully responsible and this is a personal choice after sufficient research.

  • Possible less chance of serious side effects such as toxic shock – According to studies there have been no cases of toxic shock from use of natural sea sponges as tampons – which may be due to the natural enzymes and minerals that help prevent the development of odors, molds, and bacteria as mentioned above.
  • Conforms to the natural curves of your vagina for much more comfort
  • Very soft and comfortable in comparison to a stiff hard tampon being inserted into a soft vagina with natural curves
  • Saves money – there are a variety of sources to buy sea sponges that are harvested for tampon use – many are reasonably priced – and can be reused for 3-6 months or longer, on average

My personal experience with using the natural sea sponge as a healthy, safe alternative to a standard tampon is this:

  • Almost no cramping during my period at all any more – about 99% gone
  • No vaginal irritation and discomfort
  • Lighter periods
  • No pain and discomfort of inserting, wearing & removing tampon
  • Feel cleaner
  • Cleaner sex during period

You can also double up on them if you need to for heavier periods. So, you can insert one, and then another.

A couple recommendations I will make – during sex, use one that is a little more dense. Due to the act of sex, it can get a little squished up high against the cervix. It will eventually loosen and drop with the blood flow, but if you are concerned, that would be my recommendation.

How do you insert and remove your sea sponge tampon?

When you first insert your sea sponge tampon, you will need to wet it with water, and squeeze out the excess. I normally will also squeeze it in a clean, dry towel a couple times to really get out the excess – but you will not want to insert it completely dry as this is a little uncomfortable. And, obviously, there is no cardboard or plastic applicator. So, you will need to feel comfortable with insertion and removal. You might even try and practice inserting and removing before your period to get used to the idea. If you are nervous, you can use a little coconut oil or other safe oil for you on the outer edge of the vagina to help with insertion.

When you insert your sea sponge tampon, it is recommended to push it up higher closer to your cervix – be careful – during your period, your cervix can feel a little more sensitive than other times to bumping around.

Some women recommend “sewing” or threading a piece of plain dental floss through your sea sponge for easier removal. I don’t use this method, and have read of the sponges ripping from pulling the cord. Then you have to reach in and find both pieces.

Once your sponge is full, it will naturally drop down closer to your vagina, and you will be able to use a little pressure to push it out or insert your fingers and pinch it and pull it out. (Again, you will want to be comfortable with your body for this process). You will most certainly want to do this over the toilet, and be careful not to drop it in the toilet. You will want to have a sink handy, and carefully rinse it out, squeeze well to get rid of excess water, and reinsert it. It is that easy. Some women keep a bottle of water with them if they go out for this process, I personally, don’t advocate this for obvious messy reasons.

When you first try your sea sponge tampon for the first time, I would maybe make sure you are home for the day. That way you can gauge how often you should remove to rinse when it is full. Depending on how heavy your period normally flows, you may be able to wear it for up to 6 hours. Some women may only be able to wear for 1-2 hours if their flow is very heavy – however, you may notice a change once you begin using sea sponge tampons (but, I can not guarantee this.)

You will probably feel when it is time to change your sea sponge tampon, as it will feel like it has dropped a little. Don’t wait, as it can leak. If it is over full, and you squeeze your vaginal muscles, it can leak easily.

You may need to or want to wear a liner just in case as you might with a normal tampon.

How do you care for your sea sponge tampon? 

Cleaning your sea sponge tampon is fairly easy. Once you remove your sponge, you just need to rinse it under running water, squeeze to remove all excess water, and reinsert.

In between your period or menstrual cycles, you can use a couple methods to sanitize it more by using one of the following methods: (depending which one tests best for you)

  • A mixture of 1/4 hydrogen peroxide and 3/4 water and let it soak for 15 minutes or so, this will also help remove any staining.
  • Soak for 15 minutes or so in a mixture of 1 cup of warm water and a few drops of tea tree oil.
  • Soak for 15 minutes in a cup of warm water with about 1 Tablespoon of baking soda.
  • Soak for 15 minutes in a warm water with 1 teaspoon of colloidal silver.

NOTE: Never boil your sea sponge tampon as this can decrease the life of the sponge significantly. Never use a microwave or dryer on your sponge. These can all cause your sponge to harden as well.

With care, your sea sponge tampon can last 3-6 months or longer.

Never rip your sponge, instead use a pair of scissors to trim it if needed.

Depending on the sea sponge you use, it may be lighter or darker in color. This will also depend on how it was cleansed before your purchase. I have noticed that the hydrogen peroxide lightens it over time and weakens it if you let it sit too long repeatedly in the peroxide at full strength.

New Year’s Resolution Or New Year’s Commitment?

I read a post this morning from Sonia Bueno de la Torre about making a New Year’s Commitment instead of making a New Year’s Resolution. I really loved the difference in the wording. I personally don’t normally make New Year’s Resolutions, I haven’t for many years. A long time ago, I realized that I just don’t really keep to them. And, I figured, why wait until the new year to make a change. I make changes all year long as I feel inspired to do so and I never felt they were any less powerful or any different than making a New Year Resolution.

However, I do like the sound of a New Year’s Commitment vs. Resolution.

So, what is the difference between a resolution and a commitment? 

The definition of a resolution is “a firm decision to do or not to do something” or “an intention”.

The definition of a commitment is “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc”.

I find that the word commitment feels so much more powerful as if there is nothing that is going to stop you. I feel that the word resolution (intention) feels less powerful, sort of like, “well, I have this intention to lose weight, but, I’m not really committed to do so, and if a piece of cake gets in my way, well, so be it. That cake will win, as I am not committed“.

For me, the word commitment feels more like it’s cemented and sturdy, not moving or wavering.

For me, the word commitment is a dedication no matter what. It is happening, and it is happening no matter what!
