Hi Beautiful Souls,
In this post I am re-sharing a poem I wrote late in 2022 about the fear of falling in love with someone new and learning to trust again after my divorce from a marriage that lasted almost 30 years. I wasn’t sure I would ever find love again or what it would be like if I did. This poem was written to my current husband after we were dating for a while and it is dedicated to him.
LOVE AGAIN
a poem by Yvette Marie (True Healing Source)
I wasn’t lookin’ to find you
I was doin’ fine
Just killin’ time
But, I saw your smile
And, it took a while
Then you made me blush
I tried to cover up
You tried to open me
So that I could see
…Love again
You took my hand on our first date
Then you kissed my lips
My heart began to beat
I pulled you in
You knocked me off my feet
I felt terrified
Then you looked into my eyes
You began to open me
So that I could see
…Love again
You kept comin’ by
We started keeping time
I wasn’t sure at first
If it was just a lie
The more you came around
I began to see
The way you felt for me
You kept opening me
So I could see
…Love again
I told you everything
Showed you where I’ve been
You didn’t blink an eye
You just held my hand
I didn’t understand
I thought you’d walk away
And that would be the end
Instead you opened me
So that I could see
…Love again
I’ve done everything I know
To stay in control
You tear down my wall
One brick at time
And you ease my fears
You wash away the pain
You hold me close
And you open me
So that I can see
…Love again
I didn’t ask for you
And yet here you are
Love comes walking in
You take me by the hand
Your lips find mine
You fingers touch my skin
And our hearts beat in time
And you’ve opened me
So that I can feel
…Love again
Thank you for taking a moment to read a piece of my heart.
Sharing these words is both vulnerable and healing. If my journey reminds you that your heart is still worthy of love, then perhaps this poem found you exactly when it was meant to.
If you’ve experienced heartbreak, divorce, or the fear of trusting again, I hope you’ll remember this: healing doesn’t ask us to forget the past, it gently teaches us that our hearts can become open again, one small moment at a time.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments:
Have you ever found yourself learning to trust or love again after your heart was broken? What helped you begin opening your heart?
May you be gentle with yourself, honor your own healing journey, and trust that love, whether for yourself, your life, or another person- can arrive in beautiful and unexpected ways.
With love,
Yvette
