Stay Hydrated: Natural Homemade Electrolyte Energy Drink to Combat Summer Heat

Hello Beautiful Souls!

It’s that time of year again! The scorching heat is returning for summer. At least it is here in Arizona!

So, today I am re-sharing my favorite homemade electrolyte energy drink recipe that I’ve taken to the beach to help keep hydrated while keeping cool in the water and listening to the tranquil sound of the waves crashing on the beach! I could live in my swimsuit on the beach! It is one of my favorite things in the World!

If you are anything like me, you love the warmth of the sun’s rays and the beautiful afterglow it creates on your skin, but the summer sun can really take a toll on your energy if you are outside for a length of time (hours at a time). In the past I have gotten heat stroke with fever, sunburn, puffy lips and face, dehydration and so forth. I found a couple things that helped me feel better is a delicious homemade energy drink recipe to help replenish your electrolytes as well as energy that you use while in the sun and water!

I found this recipe years ago and have altered it slightly to my taste and sip it while I am outside in the sun at the beach.

I love this energy drink recipe because it is uses all natural ingredients and has no added chemicals or other harmful ingredients or sugars other than what the fruit provides.

I do a lot of my grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s and I am there a few times a week, so I get all these food items there to create this tasty summer electrolyte energy drink.

You will need a container that will hold about 50 ounces of liquid.

Ingredients List:

A large plastic bottle of alkaline water with electrolytes, featuring a blue and turquoise design on the label.

1 whole fresh orange
1/2 of a fresh lemon
1/8 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt
1/2 Container of Trader Joe’s Large Coconut water
Honey or Stevia to taste (I use 1 TBL)
Fresh spring water or Electrolyte water (1/2 bottle of Trader Joe’s 50.7 fl oz)

Carton of Trader Joe's Pure Coconut Water with vitamin C, featuring a green coconut illustration and a straw.

I begin by emptying about half of the Trader Joe’s electrolyte water into another container, saving it for later to drink or make another batch. Squeeze the juice of the whole fresh orange and half of a fresh lemon through a mesh to avoid any seeds, chunks or pulp, then add the juice to your 1/2 full container of water. Add the honey and the pink Himalayan salt and shake to dissolve them into the water/juices mixture. The honey and pink Himalayan salt has so many health benefits (find out more about the health benefits of using pink Himalayan salt over other salt here). The original recipe called for over a tablespoon of honey. You can use Stevia if you prefer or other natural alternative such as agave, maple syrup, date syrup, etc., although there is natural sugar already provided from some of the other ingredients. Next, add about half of the contents of the large 33.8oz pure coconut water into the mixture to fill the water bottle. Shake again to mix everything together and enjoy! Sip throughout the day for a refreshing, delicious electrolyte energy boost!

Notes: I prefer the electrolyte water vs. spring water for the added electrolytes when I am in the harsh sun. I also prefer the honey over the stevia because it tastes delicious with the mixture of the other ingredients and it is calorie/nutrient dense while out in the sun and has lots of other healing properties.

I invite you to let me know how you like this homemade electrolyte energy drink recipe!

Blessings of Optimal Health, Peace & Prosperity, Yvette
